Cheap Eats 3/26/10 - Poke Cake
I am going to make poke cake tonight. I am not into super sweet stuff, so I wont be putting on any type of "frosting." The recipe calls for a Kool Whip topping. I will skip that.
I picked up a bunch of Pillsbury Cake mixes a few weeks ago for $.20 & $.36 each. Yesterday I picked up the Jello for around $.16 each. Since there are just two of us I will make 2 square cakes instead of a large rectangular one. I will freeze 1, and make Poke cake with the other. This works out great since the recipe calls for 2 boxes of Jello. I can use the frozen cake another day and make something with fresh fruit for desert.
This weekends desert will cost well under $.75 (well I will be freezing 1/2 of it for another day, so even cheaper then that!) and will make 6 servings. This will last Jeromy and I the whole weekend.
